6D Motocross Helmet ATR-2 FXR - Glacier
The 6D Motocross Helmet ATR-2 is the bigger brother of the 6D Motocross Helmet ATR-1 and is equipped with the advanced ODS® system making it the absolute leader in safety for motocross helmets. No other helmet manufacturer has raised the bar for safety this high as 6D. The ODS® system optimally distributes energy to provide better performance with forces acting both linear and angular on the motocross helmet. In addition, the new technology makes it possible for an easy rebuild of the helmet. This provides more protection, but also a longer service life so that you as a consumer can save money!
Construction 6D Motocross Helmet ATR-2:
1. Multi-impact EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) liner
6D strategically placed multi-impact EPP outer liner against the inside of the motocross helmet’s shell. EPP is an exceptional energy absorption material and has been specifically designed with islands of EPP called "damping towers" to help the ODS® system during impact. The multi-impact capability of the EPP is one of the most important elements that makes the repair of the ATR-2 possible after a moderate to heavy impact.
2. Low-friction disks
Several smooth disks top the EPP damping towers to reduce friction, and help reduce angular acceleration.
3. Elastomeric insulation dampers
Multiple dampers connect the ODS® carrier with the outer EPP liner and at the same time work together to isolate the impact energy from the brain. The elastic properties of the dampers, combined with their unique shape, provide a spring constant that helps to distribute low-threshold energy. The hourglass shape and elastic property of the dampers also work to manage the three-dimensional movement of the inner liner.
4. Optimized shell design
The 6D concept of "Optimized Shell Design" brings together the work of several materials to provide better protection and energy management. The shell should have structural integrity and flexibility to prevent injury, but it should not be too rigid. A rigid scale can drastically reduce the energy management of the motocross helmet.
5. Replaceable inner EPS (Expanded Polystyrene ) liner
The inner EPS liner is the first protection layer and therefore very important within the new advanced ODS® design. This lining actually functions as a helmet in a helmet. In addition, this EPS liner is connected with the ODS® carrier on the outside which ensures strength and integrity and helps to reduce rotational forces. The EPS is of a softer density than the EPP and is mounted in the helmet with 4 locking pins that fit the ODS® carrier. When damaged this will be the layer that can be easily replaced for a new one.
6. ODS® carrier
The ODS® carrier has enabled the development of an innovative motocross helmet design that can be easily rebuilt. The structure supports the isolation dampers and helps to manage the system materials during impact and compression. ODS® self-re-centers after impact.
7. New safety functions
Two new safety elements have been used in the new ATR-2 . The first is a "Brow Rib" which provides extra strength to the surface above the eyes. In addition, the bottom edge at the back consists of a soft material. This is designed to provide softer protection when the motocross helmet moves backwards and hits the neck area. Risk of damage to the thoracic vertebrae and neck vertebrae can be prevented or reduced by this. Traditional motocross helmets have a hard edge that can damage the vertebrae during a heavy crash.
8. EPP Lined chinbar
Thicker EPP lined chinbar consists of a lower density which makes it more durable, but also provides more energy-absorbing material for lateral impact around the jaw area. It also contains a polyurethane sternum padding which is soft to prevent or lower possible sternum damage.

Tests 6D Motocross Helmet ATR-2:
The medical community has established from many tests that rotational acceleration is the major cause of concussions, mild traumatic brain injuries and traumatic brain injuries. 6D has managed to reduce this by more than half thanks to the ODS ™ system , compared to the competition . In addition, small concussions can also cause many unpleasant effects in the long term. Where many motocross helmets have been developed to deal with hard knocks, 6D also knows how to cope with the small hits. This is partly due to the fact that in most cases only low-threshold energy is involved in a fall. Finally, 6D is able to reduce energies on the head by reducing the TTP (Time To Peak). TTP is the time in which the energy reaches its highest point during an impact. Because the ODS ™ system takes longer before the energy of an impact reaches its peak, it will drastically reduce the energy applied to the head.
